About The Diet
There are three basic types of vegetarian diets, and none of them include meat, fish, or poultry:
- Lacto-vegetarian diets exclude meat, fish, poultry and eggs, as well as foods that contain them. However, lacto-vegetarians do eat dairy products, such as milk, cheese, yogurt, and butter.
- Lacto-ovo vegetarian diets exclude meat, fish and poultry, but does allow dairy products and eggs on the diet.
- Ovo-vegetarians do eat eggs, but do not eat meat, fish and poultry, or dairy products.
The key to losing weight on a vegetarian diet is not to fill up on unhealthy carbohydrates and to get adequate protein from plant sources which may require meal planning and food combining.
Becoming a vegetarian is not difficult but will be easier if you already love nuts, fruits, and vegetables. With a little planning vegetarian diets can be healthy and balanced. A vegetarian diet is not as extreme as a vegan diet, but if you really want to give up all animal products, including eggs and dairy products, you should also consider a vegan diet.
